An update on the transfer of Section B to a new scheme sponsored by National Gas Transmission

The NGUKPS Trustees wrote to all Section B members on 19 August 2024 to notify you that the planned transfer of Section B to the new National Gas Transmission Pension Scheme (NGTPS) has now been agreed, and that the transfer will take place on or around 30 September 2024.

If you are a Section B member, please be assured that the transfer will not result in any changes to your pension benefits. If you’re already receiving a pension from the NGUKPS, it will continue to be paid as usual by NGTPS on the 15th of each month through Barnett Waddingham’s administration team based in Guildford.

The transfer is specific to the benefits you hold within Section B of the NGUKPS and doesn’t affect any other pension benefits you may have in Section A of the NGUKPS Scheme.  The new NGTPS Trustee will write to you in October to welcome you to your new scheme.

Important information if you’re registered online

Work is taking place on moving the systems before the transfer of Section B at the end of September. This means there will be a period before the transfer when the pension systems and Pension self-service won’t be available.  

If you wish to retain any of your NGUKPS documents from your pension account, we recommend you download everything you need from Pension self-service before 5pm on Thursday, 5  September 2024. Please read the information below.

Information about online services

  • There will be a period of time from 5pm on Thursday, 5 September – Tuesday, 1 October 2024 while the systems switch when the team won’t have access to members’ pension records. Pension self-service won’t be available during this time and the admin team may be delayed in responding to queries.
  • The NGUKPS documents currently available from your online account at Pension self-service will NOT be available once you transfer to the new scheme. If you wish to retain any of your current documents such as P60s, pension payslips and/ or annual benefit statements, we recommend that you login to Pension self-service and download everything you need by no later than 5pm on Thursday, 5 September 2024.   • Once the switch has been completed, you’ll be able to log in to Pension self-service as a member of the NGTPS in the same way as you do now, using your existing login details. The NGTPS administration team will email you in mid-October to let you know when online access is available again.
  • If you have previously completed an ‘Expression of Wish’ form regarding the payment of the death lump sum benefit payable under Section B, this will continue to apply under the NGTPS. Please remember to review and update this form, as necessary. There’s no need to complete an Expression of Wish form if you’ve been retired from the NGUKPS for more than five years or if you receive a dependants’ pension.
