A lump sum is paid if you die within the first five years of your first pension payment.
It will be the amount that you would have been paid as a pension over the remaining years up to that five-year mark.
You can nominate someone to receive the lump sum death benefit, or more than one person and indicate what percentage you’d like them to receive.
To let us know who you’d like to receive the lump sum, or to update your beneficiaries at any time, visit Pension self-service and complete the Expression of Wish form.
The details will be updated immediately. If you’re not online, you can print and complete an Expression of Wish form and send it to us in the post to the address provided on the form.
